Century City

Century City

Conceived as “a city within a city”, Century City was developed from the former backlot of 20th Century Studios from where it got its name. Located just 10 miles west of Downtown LA, this commercially important, 176-acre neighborhood is home to impressive skyscrapers housing major businesses, shopping centers, and luxury condos and apartments. The legendary 20th Century Studios is still headquartered in the area, maintaining its connection to the bustling urban center that it spawned.

Living in Century City

This exclusive neighborhood began to take shape in the 1960s with the sale of the 20th Century Studios backlot to developer William Zeckendorf and aluminum company Alcoa. The first buildings to rise here included Gateway West Building, Century Plaza Hotel, and Century City Medical Plaza.

Today, Century City is a bustling, upscale commercial district. Central to the lifestyle in the neighborhood is Westfield Century City, a high-end shopping center with almost 50 shops and restaurants. Also found in the territory is the prestigious Annenberg Space for Photography, which hosts free digital and print photography exhibits and other events throughout the year.

The main thoroughfare is aptly called Avenue of the Stars, and this is where you’ll find many of the neighborhood’s historic buildings, state-of-the-art architecture, and a plethora of shopping and dining options. While high rise condos and apartments dominate, you’ll also find charming single-family homes in tree-lined streets, revealing a different facet of the neighborhood.
